Nobody like hard cookies, but nobody enjoys them going to waste. Here are 3 of the most effective methods for reviving stiff or stale biscuits…
1. White Bread Slicing
All you need is a cookie jar and a slice of fresh white bread for this procedure. Bread should be placed at the bottom of the cookie jar, followed by the hard cookies.
For at least 24 hours, keep the cookie container closed. This enables the cookies to absorb moisture from the bread, transforming them from hard to soft and chewy. In general, 24 hours is sufficient time for the bread to do its purpose. However, if they are not soft enough, just refrigerate them for a further 6 hours with a new piece of bread.
If you do not have bread, a moist paper towel wrapped in foil with holes punched in it would suffice. Place it in the bottom of the jar, pour the cookies on top, close, and wait 24 hours to have soft, melt-in-your-mouth cookies.
2. Hard Cookie Reheating
Reheating hard cookies might also aid in their softening. However, proceed with caution since this is not as easy as just placing them back in the oven!
A moist paper towel and a microwave are required. Wrap the paper towel around each biscuit separately. Ascertain that it is just slightly moist, not dripping wet. Reheat them in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds on the medium setting.
This should give the cookies ample time to absorb the moisture from the paper towel. If they haven’t softened enough by the time you remove them, wrap them in another moist paper towel and microwave for an additional 10 seconds.
